10th March 2010:

Translink NI Railways Is Just the Ticket for a Healthy Work Life Balance
With research showing that three quarters of UK and Irish employees are working way over their contracted hours*, Translink NI Railways is urging passengers to strike a healthy work life balance by heading out in the evenings to break up the working week. The ‘Rail Nights Out’ campaign, launching on March 1, gives passengers a chance to do just that, offering a selection of deals and discounts at restaurants and cinemas across Northern Ireland on production of a rail ticket, plus 1/3 off evening return tickets to all destinations.
From flicks and festivals in the City, traditional fayre in Portrush to far eastern cuisine in Bangor, passengers across the rail network will not only make savings on their travel, they will be able to switch off from a hard day at the office by heading to a selection of venues to relax and unwind - at a fraction of the usual price.
Carecall, NI’s largest established counselling and outplacement services provider has joined with Translink to urge the public to get on board! John Conaghan head of business development, Carecall, explains the need for a healthy work life balance,
A recent workplace survey found that over half of us are too tired to enjoy social activities or to participate in routine family life. What is worse is that we can spend our time when we are not at work, worrying about work and therefore never really being stress free! Part of the ‘work well, live well’ strategy requires us to re-evaluate what we do in all aspects of our life and better balance the ‘work’ and ‘play’. This strategy will not only benefit employees, employers will also reap the rewards of less stressed and more productive employees.
“We advocate an ethos of ‘work smarter not harder’ and therefore welcome the NI Railways ‘Rail Nights Out’ campaign as good news for people wanting to have greater control of their work life balance. We want to call on the public to manage their time effectively and take advantage of these added value nights out! In fact the team at Carecall will be leading by example and trialing ‘Rail Nights Out’ to experience what’s on offer.”
Louise Scott, Translink NI Railways brand manager, added, “With over 16 restaurants located close to stations, 2 leading arts and film festivals plus cinema offers to choose from there really is something to suit everyone. We would like to encourage our passengers to blow away the winter cobwebs and make the most of the longer spring evenings by enjoying discounted nights – perhaps to a destination they haven’t visited before.”
For further information on ‘Rail Nights Out’ passengers can pick up a leaflet in Translink stations, contact the call centre on 028 9066 6630 or click www.translink.co.uk.
