Energy Management

Energy Policy  l  Translink energy facts: 2008/9  l  Translink Carbon Emissions

Translink is committed to monitoring and reporting upon our annual energy consumption at our facilities. This is seen as the first step in managing energy efficiently. For the financial year 2008/9 our energy consumption was 30,660 MWh.

Translink has committed to purchasing a minimum of 20% of total electricity supplies from renewable sources. This target has been met and exceeded, as from the 1st October 2009 100% of our electricity has been renewable.

In addition to renewable electricity supplies, Translink are also lowering CO2 emissions through a number of other activities:

  • Installation of Automatic meter reading technology, facilitating more in depth analysis of energy consumption.
  • Rolling programme of Energy surveys at a variety of sites with targeted actions arising.
  • Staff energy awareness programme.
  • Display ‘poster’ campaign encouraging energy efficiency and awareness.

Energy Policy

Translink have two policies related to energy management:

  • Fuel and emissions policy (pdf document to follow)
  • Facilities energy policy (pdf document to follow)

Translink energy facts: 2008/9

Translink’s total electricity consumption for 2008/9 was 14,029MWh. This represents a reduction of 6.25% on 2007/8. 75% of electricity supplied in 2008/9 came from renewable sources.

Translink Total Electricity Usage (MWh)

Translink’s total natural gas consumption for 2008/09 was 6,350 MWh. This is an increase of 13% on 2008. However, as this was from converting one of our largest depots from oil to natural gas heating this represents a significant reduction in carbon emissions.

Translink’s consumption of heating oil for 2008/09 was 10,281MWh, a reduction of 10% on 2007/08.

Translink Carbon Emissions

We have also been working in partnership with Carbon Trust since 2004. They have assisted us in developing ways to reduce our carbon footprint and save energy. Carbon Trust has provided training for our staff and helped us identify and implement energy saving opportunities.

Translink are currently working towards obtaining the Carbon Trust Standard.

Full details of Translink Carbon emissions for 2008/09 are set out in Translink carbon footprint report >>
