Our work with TIDY Northern Ireland concentrates on five key areas:
Promote Awareness & Change Behaviour
Illegal Dumping Campaign
Illegal dumping is an on-going challenge for Translink. Every year thousands of pounds are spent clearing away items such as furniture, electrical goods, and general rubbish from the rail track sides.

Dealing with this issue causes delays to services and disruption to passengers. More importantly it can have massive safety implications due to trespass on to the tracks, risks to employees, and the potential for collisions between trains and the dumped items.
To tackle this issue an information leaflet has been produced which details the main problems associated with illegal dumping. It also provides a complete list of local council numbers which you can use to arrange to have bulky waste removed from your home.

If you think you have unwanted bulky items such as furniture or electrical goods which are in a reusable condition contact one of the charity shops also listed in the leaflet to arrange a collection or donation in your area.
Enhance Facilities
TIDY Translink Awards 2009
In 2007, the TIDY Translink awards were established to facilitate the assessment of Translink facilities’ environmental performance across Northern Ireland. The initiative supports Translink staff in developing a culture of continuous environmental improvement. The awards were launched in 2007 involving 34 Translink facilities including bus and rail stations.
In 2008 an additional 3 stations joined the awards with one more coming on board in 2009 bringing the total number today to 38. The aim of the TIDY Translink award is to give public recognition to the commitment that Translink makes to improve the experience of the general public, who use Northern Ireland’s buses and trains, through enhancements to the visual appearance, environmental performance and local environmental quality of their facilities.
Translink locations are expected to make progress in ten environmental categories with each facility having to demonstrate they have at least initiated work on nine out of the ten categories. There are three awards levels; Gold, Silver and Bronze. These are awarded depending on the criteria deemed to be met by the independent assessor.
